PSP is one of those ubiquitous musical fusions that defy categorization. The group is made up of British drummer Simon Phillips, French keyboardist Philippe Saisse and Welsh bassist Pino Palladino, extraordinarily gifted musicians who have virtually traversed the world.

Collectively, they’ve performed with the crème de la crème of contemporary pop artists over the past several decades, including: The Rolling Stones, The Who, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Toto, David Bowie, John Mayer, Chaka Khan and Paul Simon. They’ve known and shared a mutual respect for each other for most of their careers but have rarely worked together.

Several years ago, Saisse relocated to Los Angeles and renewed his friendship with Phillips. They started writing and producing ‘At the World’s Edge,” Saisse’s solo CD, at Phillips' Phantom Recording Studios. While recording his album, Saisse enlisted Phillips and Palladino to perform on the track, ‘Monday Afternoon,’ which became the lead single for Saisse’s now Grammy nominated record.

It was that collaboration which sparked the idea of incarnating the trio into a full-fledged working unit. Early in 2009, the three met up in Osaka, came up with the moniker PSP, had a sound check and debuted live for the first time. They followed up Osaka with two nights at Billbord Live in Tokyo and, after six nearly spontaneous shows, PSP was born.

Those eponymous live performances were all recorded. Upon their return home, the adrenaline was still pumping, and Phillips and Saisse started mixing what became their debut CD, ‘PSP Live.

"Live is a classic jazz collaboration; a fusion festival with a highly respected trio working in tight collaboration while getting plenty of requisite solos.”  JazzTimes Oct, 2010

The internationally rooted ensemble are intent on making PSP stick.

“We realized after our live gigs together that what we’re doing musically feels pretty special," attests Palladino. “So we’re committed and excited about seeing how far we can take it.”
